OUR STORY

Our Journey of Care and Commitment

Mims Mitchell Funeral Home was opened in the late 1920’s. Mims William sent his nephew, Mims Mitchell, Sr., to embalming school in 1928. After completing school, Mims Mitchell, Sr., returned to help his uncle with the funeral home. The funeral home was originally located on Main Street. The funeral home was moved to its present location on Railroad Ave sometime in the late 1950’s. In 1960, Mims Mitchell Funeral Home united with the Upton Funeral Home in Mendenhall and became Upton-Mims Mitchell Funeral Home. In 1970, a group of investors built Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in what was once a cotton field. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall was built shortly after the Magee location was finished. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee, Mendenhall, and Taylorsville was purchased in 1988 by a Mississippi family-owned business. Upton-Mims Mitchell Funeral Homes were consolidated with Colonial Chapel in 1991. We still offer the same quality of service and standard of care that was started all those years ago.
