Mrs. Verna Harris was a remarkably loving, kind-hearted, and strong woman who loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all her family and friends. She loved talking and reminiscing the days of old with them. Verna lived a long, full life and was always ready to praise the Lord for His goodness to her. She loved her church and all the visits from her Pastor and church members.
On October 24, 2011, she wrote the following statement for her family that tells of her heart:
I love Jesus with all my heart. I am saved, thank God. He forgave me of all my sins. Kids,
give your heart to God, and you all will see me in heaven one day.
V erna was one special lady that touched many lives. She will be missed by many, but as she spoke, we can meet one day again in a beautiful, wonderful place called heaven where we can all worship Jesus together!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther D. Harris; son, Earnest "Dude" Smith; daughter, Norma Thornton; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; and thirteen brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Harlon Smith (Kay) of Tupelo, MS and Jimmy Turnage (Bodil) of Denmark; daughter, Linda Tate of Eight Mile, AL; and eleven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Tate, Dennis Smith, Rod Lofton, Larry Joe Loftin, Wayne Loftin, and Pete (Chummy) Loftin.
