Before going into the VA, Tommy was an active member of Taylorsville Presbyterian Church. By the way if the grounds committee never figured out who sprayed the round up instead of pulling the weeds, it was Tommy. He was a 1956 graduate of Taylorsville High School. He was a member of the Mississippi Loggers Association for a number of years advocating for loggers. Tommy was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was proud to serve his country. While enlisted, he even had a little side job loaning money to other servicemen; with interest, of course! He was a smart businessman early in life. In the early 80's a representative from the State Archives of North Carolina came to interview him about logging in the South for a documentary to be stored in the archives. Tommy was a third-generation logger, best known for his work ethic, his integrity and showing up with one more load right before closing time at the mill! Some people work to live; Tommy truly lived to work, and he expected everybody else to do the same. Shirley was his soulmate and partner in life and in business. She even let him think he was THE BOSS sometimes!
Tommy was preceded in death by his mother and daddy, Mabel and T.P Moran. He is survived by his bride of 62 years, Shirley Sullivan Moran; his son Tony (Marilyn); two grandchildren, Holly (Baker) and T.K. (Magan); three great grandchildren, Kyndal, Kali and S.J. as well as two sisters Barbara Shows (Buddy), Sara Thompson (Burlon Dale) and brother J.L. Moran (Brannon).
Pallbearers are; Baker Ford, Jason Dyess, Ken Thompson, Myron Bontrager, Romyn Graham, and Tim Robinson.
