Ruby Lee Higgins Garner, 88 of Magee, MS passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at her residence in Magee, MS. She was born Thursday, July 2, 1936 in Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi to Barney Beth and Emma Saulters Higgins. She was the second child of 11 children Anna Lois, Ruby Lee, Louise, Lillie Mae, Tommy Rae, Robert, David, George, Emma Jean, Geraldine, and Baby John. She loved her brothers and sisters more than they ever knew. Her family was sharecroppers so she was never scared of hired work. It was a good thing because the love of her life John D. Garner was a hard worker. God put them together. He knew they needed each other. They was joined together in Marriage on January 14, 1956. She was 19 years old and stayed joined for 48 years until passing. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the best friend anyone could ever want. Ruby was one of a kind. She was the kindness woman you ever wanted to meet. She would help anybody and everybody. Always would let people stay that had nowhere to go. She was true in heart the kind of person we all should be. She had the smile that would light up the room. She was so grateful for all that she had and no she didn't have much but always thank the Lord for what she did have she had something much more precious than gold and that was the love of the Lord in her we always said we wish that we was more like her. She left this life and went home to be with the Lord, her father and mother, her husband John D, her son Hulon who she loved so very much two grandsons; John H. Smith and Barney George Warren; brothers, Tommy Rae, Robert, David, George, and John; sisters, Lillie Mae, Emma Jean, and Geraldine; son-in-law's, Bennie Brown and David Brewer; daughter-in-law, Tammie Marie Garner. Mrs. Garner on March 1, 2025 went to be with the Lord and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 07, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Burial will follow in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Bro. Gary Roberts will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Garner; son, Hulon Garner; father, Barney Beth Higgins; mother, Emma Saulters Higgins; grandchildren, John H. Smith and Barney George Warren; brothers, Tommy Rae Higgins, David Higgins, George Higgins and Baby John Higgins; sisters, Lillie Mae Runnels, Emma Jean Thornton and Geraldine Arender; son-in-law, Bennie Brown; daughter-in-law, Tammie Marie Garner; son-in-law, David Brewer.
Survivors include her sons, Junior Garner and Johnny Garner (Ashton); daughters, Peggy Brown, Margaret Bishop (Kelly Wayne) and Earnestine Hill (Don); 35 grandchidlren; 47 great- grandchildren; 21 great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Anna Lois Taylor, Louise Amason (Gary); brother-in-law, A.J. Runnels; sister-In-law, Jo Ann Higgins
Pallbearers will be James Garner, Charlie Dale, Devin Lee, Duahcota Lee, Tyler Sims, and Matthew Garner.
