Robert Dale Rhodes, 68 of Mize, MS passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born Thursday, September 15, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi. Bro. David Hays, Colonel William King, joe Ishee and Mr. John Wes Cross will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Robert joined the United States Army in 1978 where he did a two year tour in South Korea and various duty stations in the United States. Following his United States Army career he returned to Mississippi and joined the MSARNG in 1985 he spent the majority of his time with B Co 106 TH BSB Where he deployed in 2004-2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom stationed at FOB Dogwood, he then returned to Iraq for a second tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1687 TH Transportation Co. stationed at Camp Taji. He returned home from deployments and Honorable retired with 29 years of service.
His decorations include Meritorious service medal, 2nd award Army commendation medal, 3rd award Army Achievement Medal , Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Stars, and various other Military awards and Citations.
After retiring Robert continued his civilian state service with RSMS at Camp Shelby, Ms. where he retired in September 2015 with 17 years of state service. After retirement Robert spent his remaining years in Mize, MS with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Dale Rhodes; brother, Hulon Rhodes.
Survivors include his wife, Jenny Shoemaker Rhodes of Mize, MS; sons, Taylor Rhodes (Cassie) of College Station, TX, Alex Rhodes of College Station, TX and Roger Rhodes of Raleigh; daughter, Jennifer Abernathy of Mize; mother, Lucille Ishee Rhodes; grandchildren, Harley Rhodes (Matthew) of Raleigh, Chandler Abernathy of Mize, Aiden Jeffers of Mize, Zayah Jeffers of Mize, Kyleigh Jeffers of Mize and Byron Rhodes of Stringer; brothers, Danny Rhodes (Chris ) of Raleigh, Charles Rhodes of Mize, Max Rhodes (Linda) of Mize; great grandchildren, Chevy Boyd of Raleigh and Chase Fails of Raleigh; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Posey, Justin McRorey, Christopher Rhodes, Cody Shoemaker, John Cross, and Jonathon Rhodes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Aiden Jeffers, Chandler Abernathy, Jackson Newsome and Landin Rhodes.
