Rayburn “Punk” Lancaster, 89, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, at his residence in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Known to many as “Punk,” he lived a life marked by steady work, public service, and the simple joys that brought him close to the people he loved. For 40 years, he worked in the oil field industry, a career that reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. He also served as a school bus driver for the Smith County School District, a role that placed him in the daily life of his community. In addition, he gave 16 years of service as a member of the Board of Aldermen for the Town of Taylorsville, contributing his time and care to the town he called home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorsville where he was devoted too.
He also served in the Mississippi National Guard for eight years. From his younger days, he carried a spirit of involvement and accomplishment, having been named Mr. THS in high school and serving as editor of the yearbook.
Outside of work and service, he enjoyed coin collecting, motorcycles, and treasure hunting. Some of the memories held closest by those who loved him include traveling with his daughter, planting trees in the cold, and the times he loved shooting with his son. These moments speak to a man who found happiness in shared experiences and in the company of family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sullivan Lancaster, and by his children, William Jason Lancaster and his wife, Andrea, and Leslie Lancaster. He is also survived by his grandson, Daniel Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hosea Lancaster; by Eula Hill Lancaster; by his brother, William Everett Lancaster; and by his half-sister, Lucele Jayroe.
Visitation will be held on November 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 125 Welcome St, Taylorsville, MS 39168. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A graveside service will then be held at Old Zion Hill Cemetery, 2962 Smith County 20, Mize, MS 39116. Dr. Frankie Clark will be officiating. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of all arrangements.
Rayburn “Punk” Lancaster will be remembered with love for his years of work, his service to his community, and the special moments he shared with those closest to him. His life leaves a lasting memory in the hearts of his family and friends.
