Philip Alexander Hopkins, 86 of Mendenhall, MS passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was born Sunday, August 21, 1938 in Louisiana.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Tim Parker and Bro. George Owens will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401
Philip was a man who loved the Lord and he always let people know it. He was a prayer warrior who showered others with prayer. Throughout his life he made his love and devotion for his family known through his words and his actions. He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he cherished spending time with them and teaching the value of hard work. He was a man that loved big and loved to have a good time. His absence will be deeply felt by all those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Blane Hopkins; parents, Harvey Hopkins and Irene Darnell Hopkins; sisters, Sue Shearer and Deanie McDaniel.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Sullivan Hopkins of Mendenhall, MS; daughters, Sheila Shows (Dewey) of Mendenhall and Crystal Brewer (Jason) of Mendenhall; grandchildren, Jeremy Cox, Jacob Cox (Cameron ), Honey Beth Mashburn (Lee), Cullen Shows (Mallory), Lexi Shows, Gracie Brewer, Kinsey Brewer and Eli Brewer; brothers, JE Hopkins and Laney Hopkins (Annette); sisters, Joan Raley, Sheryl Abernathy (Johnny), Nelda Rabb (Raymond), Candy Owens (George ), Pam Norwood (David); great- grandchildren, Blane Mashburn and Blair Mashburn; and a host of nieces andnephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Cox, Jacob Cox, Cullen Shows, Eli Brewer, Alex Hopkins, and Josh Lamon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Blane Mashburn.
