Lewis Edwin Byrd, 75 of Mize, MS passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at his home in Mize, MS. He was born Tuesday, May 10, 1949 in Magee, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Unity Methodist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Bro. John C Barr and Bro. Rodney Hannah will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564.
Mr. Byrd proudly served in the U.S. military and was a dedicated Vietnam veteran. He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Mr. Byrd attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he found joy in singing in the choir. Mr. Byrd was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, deeply devoted to his family. After retiring, he enjoyed tending to his garden and spending quality time with his loved ones. His warm spirit and kind presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mary Elise Byrd; sister, Sandra Lynn Conn.
Survivors include his wife of fifty -six years, Barbara Kay Barr Byrd; sons, Tony Byrd (Shon), Gary Daniel Byrd (Jamie) and Ken Byrd (Mandy); grandchildren, Gigi Fryery (Austin), Matt Byrd, McKenize Byrd, Anna Claire Chesnut, Shelby Poe (Ryan ), Bailey Rhodes (Kyle) and Braeden Coulter; great grandchildren, Riley Tate Fryery and Ava Rhodes; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Boykin, Paul Shelby, Calvin Vowell, John Barr, Chris Conn, and Rodney Speir.
Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Vowell, Steve Garris, and Mt. Zion Men`s Sunday School Class.
