OBITUARY OF
Johnnell Kennedy McAlpin
Johnnell Kennedy McAlpin, 95, of Magee, Mississippi died on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Magee, Mississippi.
Visitation will be at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Graveside service with burial will immediately follow at Sharon Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Colonial Chapel Funeral is handling the arrangements.
A native of Magee, she was one of the five daughters of Lewis and Myrtle White Kennedy. Mrs. McAlpin was a member of First Baptist Church. She graduated from Magee High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She married Delmas G. McAlpin of Magee in 1949 and moved to Jackson. Mrs. McAlpin worked as a Credit Manager and Office Manager of LeGrand Jewelry Store on Capitol Street in Jackson for nine (9) years. She and her husband moved back to Magee in 1958 to go in business; they owned and operated Delmas' Department Store on Main Street in Magee. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She took great pride in her yard and home. She was a person that showed empathy for the elderly and was caregiver for an aunt and her parents for many years.
Mrs. McAlpin was preceded in death by: her husband, Delmas McAlpin, her parents, her sisters Louise Robertson and husband Vernon, Bernadean King and husband Billy, and Corine Kennedy, and brother-in-law, Charles Mize.
Survivors include: sister, Jean Mize of Kingwood, Texas; nephew and nieces, David Robertson, Gail (Ricky) Bratcher, Brenda (Clay) Bowman, and Cynthia (Jason) Hillman; great niece and nephews, Lindsey (Timothy) Frye, Josh Bratcher, Alex (Valeria) Bowman, Matt Bowman, Ryan Mize, and Reid Hillman; great-great niece and nephew, Lexi Frye, Brooks Frye, Vivian Bowman, and Sylvia Bowman; and sister-in-law, Lynda McAlpin (Randy) Oswalt.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Magee or Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery in Magee, MS.
