John Moore was born on October 3, 1941, in Standing Pine, MS, in Leake County. He graduated high school from Walnut Grove, obtained a Bachelor's degree from Delta State University and then a Master's from the University of Southern Mississippi. John and Betty both moved to Harrisville to teach; they rented rooms in the same boarding house, from Mrs. Barlow.  Their students played matchmakers; and on June 3, 1966, they were married. On August 11, 1972 they welcomed their first child, daughter, Laurie Moore Brewer; then, a son, John David Moore, II on July 1, 1974. John had a career in education that spanned 31 years, which included coaching basketball and baseball, teaching, and serving as the principal of Magee High School. He was a beloved teacher, coach, principal, and School Board Member at Harrisville, West Union, Magee and for all Simpson County Schools.

He was a faithful member of Harrisville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He served his community as a member of the Harrisville Water Association board and the Harrisville Economic Council.  He loved the Lord, his family, his community, his fellow man, gospel sings, and, of course, hunting and scouting the woods for wild berries, grapes, and wild plums.  Betty made many a jar of preserves from John's labors.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Moore; mother, Lillian Watkins Moore; brothers, Truman Moore and Ray Allen; sisters, Donna Allen and Ruby Allen Freeman.
