Obituary

James "Haskel" Yelverton was born on November 14, 1932, at his family home in Taylorsville, Mississippi, to Horace and Clara Jones Yelverton. He grew up with four brothers and six sisters.

Haskel proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later married Dolly Langley Yelverton, and together they raised three children: Steve, Cile, and Eddie.

After retiring from Yates Construction, Haskel returned to Taylorsville, where he bought the family farm and enjoyed raising cattle and growing watermelons. He later moved to Brandon, Mississippi, to be closer to his children.

Haskel was a Godly man who loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, playing the guitar, and singing gospel and country music. You could almost always find him wearing his favorite fedora hat, a style that became a special part of who he was. Some of Haskel’s greatest joys came from the time he spent with his grandchildren.

He was a true do-it-yourself man who was both resourceful and frugal. He believed there was always a way to fix something before replacing it. With a little Gorilla Glue and plenty of determination, he could repair just about anything.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his strong work ethic, and the many happy memories he shared with those who knew and loved him.
