James Harold Herrington, age 88, passed away peacefully August 14, 2026 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Services to be held Wednesday, August 19 at Siloam Baptist Church with visitation from 10 to 12, Service at 12 with internment in the church cemetery immediately following.
A lifelong resident of Simpson County, Harold was born on December 17, 1937, in Pinola, Mississippi, to the late Virgil and Beulah Herrington. In 1955, Harold married the love of his life, Billie Jean Grubbs. Together, they shared 61 beautiful years and raised five children before her passing in 2015. Harold was a well-known and industrious member of his community. In the 1970s, he ran several popular local eateries, including the Dog and Suds, Poolside Restaurant, and the Dallas Truck Stop—famous for its Friday night steak dinners. In the 1980s, he transitioned careers to become a heavy equipment operator for Bush Construction Company, working faithfully until his retirement.
A devoted member of Siloam Baptist Church, Harold loved his church family deeply. In his later years, when he could no longer attend in person, he faithfully watched the broadcast services on his phone. He loved his Lord and Savior and was ready to be in the arms of Jesus, reunited with his beloved Billie Jean and his son, Mike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Beulah Williamson Herrington, his beloved wife, Billie Jean, his son, James Michael, brothers Ellis, Mack, Hilton, and Hillary Herrington, and sister, Lois Herrington Waters. Harold loved his children, grands, and great grands unconditionally and would move heaven and earth to help them. He is survived by his children Kathy Carrell (Dusty), James Patrick Herrington (Lisa), Pamela Jones (Chris), and Lisa Carrell (the late Jeff Carrell). He was blessed with 10 wonderful grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He had a host of special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom were so good and faithful to him and he loved and cherished them dearly.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Hillcrest Nursing Home for the exceptional care, love, and kindness shown to our daddy—he loved y'all. We also sincerely thank Pax Hospice for their dedicated support and comfort over the past few weeks
