Obituary

On Friday, April 9, 2021, Gladys Sullivan Miller, loving mother of two, passed away at the age of 88.  Gladys was born on May 3, 1932 to Harve Jack and Myra Sullivan and was raised in Mize, MS.  She graduated from Mize High School and went to work for the telephone company in New Orleans, LA.  After returning to MS, she worked for Vickers, Inc. in Jackson, MS while her children attended junior high and high school.  Upon returning to Covington County, she became a beautician, owned a flower shop, and helped manage Sullivan Trucking Company.

Gladys never met a stranger and loved engaging in "lively" conversation.  She always had an opinion and was quick to share it with others.  She loved the Lord and was also quick to share His Word with others.  She was a member of Mendenhall Church of Christ.  Gladys's lifelong passion was fishing, and she always expected to be the best fisherman in the boat.  On any given day she would report having added two hundred white perch to the family freezers.

Gladys is survived by her husband, James H. Miller and her two children, Gwen Sullivan Magee (Tommy) from Ellisville, MS and Garry Lewis Sullivan (Sheila) from Mt. Olive, MS. and two step-children, Denise Miller Walley (Mike), from Byram, MS and Teresa Miller Watson (Mitch) from Byram, MS. and her sister, Eva Dee Casey of Jackson, MS.

Those who call her Mamaw are:  Johnny Milling (Candee), Joshua Sullivan, Tiffany Sullivan (Justin) Kemp, Katye Magee, Trista Magee Whitman (Cole), Jennifer Walley (Nick) Boen, Shanna Walley (Wesley) Stowe, Amanda Watson (Ryan) McCool, Marc Watson.  Those who call her great-grandma are:  Rhaly Milling, Ramsey Milling, Cooper Boen, Eli Boen, Grant Stowe, Alannah McCool, Samuel McCool, Kaitlin McCool, and Nathaniel Watson and one great, great grandchild, Jasper Kemp.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Earl Sullivan, her brothers, Chester and Jack Sullivan, her half-brother, Glen Sullivan and sisters, Bobbie Pope, Louise Lott, Marie Moore, Pauline Sullivan, and her twin sister, Bradys Grubbs.

Gladys has been wonderfully cared for by three incredible women during the last four years.  Alberta McNair Sherman from Mt. Olive, Dorothy Nell Magee from Mt. Olive and Janet Thornton from Magee have provided personal care, cooked meals, and spent countless hours laughing, singing and praying with her. They have loved her like sisters and placed her well being above their own during a very difficult time.

In order to celebrate Gladys' work ethic and desire to empower others, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a gift to the Gladys Sullivan Miller and Bradys Sullivan Grubbs Cosmetology Scholarship, JCJC Foundation, Inc., 900 S. Court Street, Ellisville, MS 39437 Gifts will be used to help needy students become cosmetologist.
