Edith Wells
Sellers
January 10, 1934 – June 11, 2025
Edith Wells Sellers, 91, of Flowood, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Peach Tree Village in Brandon, Mississippi.
Affectionately known as Edie to those who loved her, she married her high school sweetheart,
Carroll, shortly after graduation. They shared sixty wonderful years together, living and working
in cities across the country. Edie built a long and respected career in banking, rising through the
ranks from teller to vice president. As part of the first generation of women to work outside the
home, she was truly a trailblazer in her field. After retiring from banking, she was recruited by
the FDIC to serve as an examiner and trainer—roles she embraced for several years before she
and Carroll returned home to Mississippi to retire together. Wherever they moved, Edie always
said the first thing they would do was find a church where they could serve. She remained
committed to her faith and was a member of Brandon Baptist Church. She was also a proud and
devoted supporter of Mississippi State University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; her brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and
Virginia Wells; her nephew, Ira Wells; her parents, Alonzo and Scrap Wells; and an infant
brother, Elton Wells.
She is survived by her niece and husband, Glinda and Odean Busby; and a cousin and his wife,
Tal and Mary Lee Floyd, who lovingly cared for her through her final days.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Peach Tree for the compassion, love,
and care they showed Edie in her final weeks.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church in
Smith County, Mississippi. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
