Obituary

Doris Wenona Moorehead, age 104, passed away May 6, 2026, at Highland Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 11:00 PM until the service at 1:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS. Burial will follow in D’Lo Cemetery in D’Lo, MS. Bro. Joe Hanna will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031.

Wenona was born July 13, 1921, in D’Lo, Mississippi where she lived most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Arlis Moorehead and daughter Faye Owens; parents Burb and Hattie Hill and siblings Max Hill, Juanita Henderson, Dalton Hill, and Glen Hill.

Wenona is survived by her daughter Elaine Blossom (Sammy) of Flora, six grandchildren, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also well loved by nine nieces and nephews.

Wenona was known in D’Lo for her strength, sweet nature and love of sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Greatest Generation who valued hard work and frugality. She recalled stories of D’Lo in its heyday with hotels, a hospital, department store and Finkbine Lumber Company.

Special thoughts go to her niece Kay Warren who visited her daily in D’Lo and, with husband Don, made many trips to the emergency room in Jackson. Love also goes to her granddaughter Mary Helen Blossom who visited most days and guided her care at Highland. The family thanks her loving sitters who truly cared for her at Highland Home.

Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made in her name to D’Lo Baptist Church, P. O. Box 185, D’Lo 39062, where she was a lifetime member.
