Doris Parks Gibson
(August 17, 1926 – January 21, 2022)

Doris Parks Gibson, 95 of Brandon, Mississippi passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was born Tuesday, August 17, 1926, in Puckett, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Skyway Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Pearl, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Skyway Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Pearl, Mississippi. The burial will follow in Puckett City Cemetery in Puckett, Mississippi. Dr. Jeff Parker will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Fresh out of high school, Doris Parks and Doyle Wayne Gibson met in mobile, Alabama during WWII where they were both working as civilians for the U.S. Army. They soon discovered they both had a love for music at the Wednesday prayer services and both were talented musicians playing multiple instruments. They were married in Mobile while working there, and celebrated their 53rd anniversary in March of the year Wayne passed away.

Doris worked many years for the Mississippi highway patrol before moving to the Jackson police department from which she retired.

After retirement they enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables on their property, canning or freezing the produce which they also often shared with family and friends. The two enjoyed trips specially to places new to them and seeing new sights and historical locations.

Over the years she was a girl scout troop leader, a church musician, and loved entertaining extended family when they visited. She was a prize-winning cook who thoroughly enjoyed seeing people enjoy her dishes and desserts. During the Vietnam war, she learned to make her popular candies so they would stay fresh when she shipped them to her brother-in-law Woodrow Holland serving there. She was also a talented seamstress, often combining designer patterns into unique finished attire and creating beautiful detailed afghans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Wayne Gibson; daughters, Judy Gibson and Phyllis Gibson Iccomb; father, Robert Newton Parks; and mother, Dovie McLain Parks.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty C. Gibson Winkler of GA and Donna Sue Gibson of LA; and a host of other family members and friends.
