Obituary

Donald Carley Mahaffey, Sr. April 24, 1970 – June 26, 2026

Donald Carley Mahaffey, Sr., 56, of Braxton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2026.

Born on April 24, 1970, Donald answered the call to serve his country at just 17 years old, enlisting in the United States Navy in December 1987. He served with distinction for over two decades, earning the rank of Aviation Maintenance Administration man Chief Petty Officer (AZC) with designations as both an Aviation Warfare Specialist (AW) and Surface Warfare Specialist (SW) — a testament to the breadth and dedication of his service. He honorably retired in March 2009.

Donald was a devoted husband, and the love he shared with his wife, Linda, was the cornerstone of his life. They were married for 20 years until her passing in 2011. He carried her memory with him always.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Mahaffey.

Donald is survived by his two children, Donald Carley Mahaffey, Jr. ("DJ") of Jackson and Heather Michelle Mahaffey of Brandon; his parents, Edmond Dee Mahaffey, Sr. ("Dee") and Carolyn Mahaffey of Braxton; his brother, Edmond Dee Mahaffey, Jr. and wife Jennifer; and his nieces, Emily Scalisi and Lexi Mahaffey.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 1, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Braxton, Mississippi, with burial to follow immediately at Callender Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chuck McGee (cousin), Wes McGee (cousin), Vance Smith (friend), Jimmy Smith (friend), Chris Hosey (friend), and Chris Jackson (friend).

A life well lived. A country well served. A family well loved.
