Obituary

Dianne Davis Herring

1946 – 2026

Dianne Davis Herring passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026. She was born March 25, 1946, in Carthage, MS, to Mabel Sandling Davis and Emmet Morris Davis. The family relocated to Raleigh, MS, where she graduated from Raleigh High School in 1964. In true Dianne fashion, she couldn't do just one thing at a time, simultaneously attending the Fondren School of Cosmetology during her last two years of high school, graduating in 1965.

What followed was a successful career as a hairstylist. From Mississippi to Huntsville, AL, and back again, Dianne left a lot of people looking and feeling their best. In 1976, she opened The Style Cabin in Raleigh, a place where bad hair days went to die, and big personalities came to shine.

But Dianne's flair for artistry didn't stop at the shampoo bowl. The truest version of Dianne lived in the creative corners of her life. She was a devoted disciple of Bob Ross, and those who knew her understood that "happy little trees" was more than just a phrase — it was a way of seeing the world. She loved to paint, knit, and crochet. And butterflies? Dianne never met one in any form that she didn't love.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Martin Eugene Davis.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gene Herring; children, Melissa Barnes (Chet), Sarah Herring, Catherine Weems (Duane), and Lee Herring (Roxanne); sister, Sandy Davis (Amy); grandchildren, Emma, Erin, Davis, Julie, Jesse, Jack, Luke, Griff, and Hollis; and six great-grandchildren.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff at MS Care Center of Raleigh for the compassionate care they provided Dianne.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 9, at First Baptist Church in Raleigh, from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at North Raleigh Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Davis Barnes, Jesse Herring, Jack Herring, Duane Weems, Luke Fisher, and Cooper Chavis. Honorary pallbearers are Griff Weems and Hollis Weems.
