Obituary

David Mitchell Blakeney, 75 of Lucedale, MS passed away Tuesday at his home on May 14, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Mitchell was born to parents R.W. Blakeney and Tommie Jean Ainsworth Blakeney on Monday, June 21, 1948 in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Mitchell graduated from Taylorsville High School and attended Jones Junior College.

Mitchell was an avid historian and loved sharing his knowledge of that with family and friends, this knowledge will be dearly missed. He also had a love and passion for his horses. Lastly we can't forget his love for his cars, especially corvettes.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville, MS. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Jane Blakeney; parents, R.W.  Blakeney and  Tommie  Jean  Ainsworth  Blakeney;  brother, Mark  Blakeney;  nephew, Brandon  Seth  Blakeney;  brother-in-law, Bobby  Joe  Hough.

Survivors include his daughter, Tisha  Callahand  (Charles); sons, Dustin Blakeney  (Amy) and Matthew  Blakeney; grandchildren, Hunter  Callahand, Dylan  Callahand (Nila), Landon  Blakeney, Tyler  Sweeting and Cadence  Blakeney ;step-grandchildren, Macee Dunn, Maddox Dunn, Chloe Wilner, and Ava Hancock; step-children, Shiree Walker (Justin), and Ginny Johnson;  sisters, Carol Ingram (Harrol) and Marian Hough; brother, Bruce Blakeney; great-grandchildren  along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Blakeney, Landon Blakeney, Matthew Blakeney, Hunter Callahand, James Callahand, and Tyler Sweeting.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Davis.

The family would like to give special thanks to Deaconess Hospice and his caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship Cemetery Fund.
