Augustus Gerald “Bub” Phillips August 14, 1928 – September 10, 2026 Augustus Gerald Phillips, lovingly known to all as “Bub,” of Braxton, Mississippi, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior at the age of 98 on September 10, 2026. Born August 14, 1928, in Braxton, he lived his entire life in the community he loved, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to family. 

Bub served his country with honor in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After returning home, he built a steady career in telephone communications and retired from South Central Bell. For many years he also owned and operated the greenhouse in Mendenhall, where his green thumb and love of growing things were on full display. 

A true outdoorsman, Bub found great joy in working in his yard and garden, fishing, and especially deer hunting. He cherished the quiet peace of the woods and the simple satisfaction of time spent outdoors. His hands were never idle, and his heart remained open to the beauty of God’s creation around him.

Bub was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus “Gus” Phillips and Evie Phillips of Braxton; his brother, Bill Phillips of Jackson; his sister, Mildred “Gert” Amason; and his wives, Lila Everett Phillips and Ruth Shepherd Phillips. 

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lou Gail Phillips of Braxton; his daughter, Renee Williamson (Billy) of Braxton; his son, Ken Phillips of Memphis, Tennessee; stepson Donnie Caughman (Sue) of Braxton; stepson Michael Dubois of Las Vegas; stepson C. James Dubois of Belize; and stepdaughter Verna Stokes. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brice Williamson (Stephanie) of Braxton; Brock Williamson (Ashton) of Brandon; Benjamin Eichelberger of Brandon; Brian Eichelberger of Searcy, Arkansas; Robert Stokes (Lacey) of Brandon; and numerous great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall, with the funeral service following at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Braxton City Cemetery immediately following funeral services. 

Bub’s life was a testament to quiet strength, steady faith, and deep love for the people and place God gave him. Those who knew him will remember a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and trusted the Lord through every season. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered until we meet again.
