When we say the word mama, we think of her huge heart and her beautiful smile.  She would literally give you the shirt off her back and would help anyone in need.  Mama loved God, daddy, her children, grandchildren, and the great-grands stole her heart.  Mama cared for her husband until God called him home.  She also took care of her parents and mother-in-law.  In God mama placed her trust and faith.  When diagnosed with cancer she never cried or asked 'WHY ME!"  She accepted it and tried to comfort each of us.  We are blessed to call her "Mama"

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Clifton Thornton; father, Benjamin Franklin Smith; mother, Bertha Marie Blackwell Smith; mother-in-law, Winnie Mae Newcomb Thornton; brother-in-law, Michael Thornton; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Ann Thornton.

Survivors include her children, Stepheny Thornton Scott (Marty) of Bay Springs, MS, Joanne Thornton Gunter (Craig) of Mize, MS, and Tommy Thornton (Charla) of Taylorsville, MS;  six grandchildren, Amanda Scott Varnes (Jason) of Magee, MS, Cody Scott (Heather) of White Oak, MS, Chris Matthews (Krysti) of Mize, MS, Whitney Toney (special friend Mark Thames) of Magee, MS, T.C. Thornton (Katelyn) of Taylorsville, MS and Eden Thornton of Magee, MS;  fifteen great-grandchildren; brother's-in-law, Doug Thornton of Hattiesburg, MS and Paul David Thornton (Susan) of Taylorsville, MS, and Keith Thornton (Linda) of Forest, MS; sister-in-law, Penny Thornton of Raleigh, MS.
