Charles Larry Rainey, 66 of Mendenhall passed away November 29, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5-8p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Colonial Chapel with interment in the Stonewall Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Rainey was a 1962 graduate of Pinola high school. He served our country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for six years as an Air Traffic Controller in France. Mr. Rainey was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Rainey enjoyed dirt-track and Nascar Racing. He was co-owner of the 111 race car. He enjoyed many years of racing with the late Paul McWilliams and the L88 racecar.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Brenda Walker Rainey; children, Glenn (Penny) Rainey, Chris (Mae Lena) Rainey, Ginny Rainey, Libby Rainey, all of Mendenhall and his “special children” Tammy (Myrin) Short, Fort Lewis, WA and Monica Saranthus Byrd, Faulkville, AL, 7 grandchildren and brothers; Buddy (Julie) Rainey, Mendenhall and James (Becky) Rainey, Terry, MS and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Rainey is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Nattie Weathersby Rainey and Sisters Evelyn Crawford and Sue Saranthus.
